This workshop will expose students to a variety of fundamental watercolor techniques that are essential for understanding this exciting and elusive medium.
We will begin with basic, technical exercises aimed at building understanding and confidence before deploying those techniques in increasingly challenging "example designs." Jim will provide the reference for several "example designs" for each student to trace on their watercolor paper (using teacher-supplied carbon paper). After students have completed tracing/transferring a given design, Jim will demonstrate his suggested painting process. Finally, students will be set free to give it a try. Again, these designs will get progressively more challenging - allowing each student to progress incrementally.
During our last day of the workshop, each student is welcome to continue working on any of the (teacher-supplied) "example designs" OR they may choose to work on a personal design. In which case, please bring at least one reference image (printed or digital) of any subject (e.g. floral, landscape, portrait) and Jim will help guide you along your (painting) way.
