Elizabeth Geiger: Drawing and Painting the Still Life. 4 Day Workshop, March 28-31, 2023
March 28-31, 2023
Tuesday-Friday
9:30 am-4:30 pm
Still Life is the place artists have long gone to experiment, sharpen their skills and create their own subject matter. There’s an adage in painting that says, "Tone does all the work and color gets all the credit". This is why Elizabeth is passionate about teaching drawing - for its ability to clarify your thinking, help you understand what you’re seeing, and to focus on tone. Drawing is the root of artwork - the place where shapes can be explored, forms can be examined and tones organized. The first day of this four day workshop will focus solely on drawing. This will help sharpen decision making and transition you into tonal painting.
We will examine painting fundamentals for the final three days of Geiger’s worksop: using tone and color to create light, choosing a palette, and exploring compositional ideas to add drama and underlying structure to your paintings. Join Elizabeth and hear her ideas about setting up a still life, creating a mood, color mixing and how to steal from the Masters. Participants will draw and paint on paper, making both rapid palette knife studies and longer worked paintings with brushes. Expect demos, art history discussion, and a lot of feedback!
