Elizabeth Geiger: Drawing and Painting the Still Life

Supply List


There are standing easels and small tables in the studio but you may bring your own portable easel if you prefer.

Day 1
DRAWING SUPPLIES:

9x12 Drawing pad (optional)
Several sheets of 18 x 24 drawing paper (or roll paper if you have it + I will bring) Graphite Crayons in a few hardnesses (for example: HB, 4B, 8B)
White acrylic eraser
Charcoal pencils (optional)

Days 2-4
PAINTING SUPPLIES:

Painting paper (I recommend gessoing this once or twice) OR
Gessoed printmaking paper (like Rives BFK - gesso four times on one side) At least 4 sheets sized anywhere between 16 x 20 up to 18 x 24 MAX

Cardboard or masonite to clip or tape the paper to (end of a drawing pad works well) Disposable palette paper pad (large)
Bristle brushes (flats and rounds from sizes 4-12 I use Utrecht 209 Natural Chungking) Palette knife (I use Blick comfort grip style 005)

Small jar of medium (Gamsol plus linseed or stand oil) small artichoke heart jars work well

Oil paints - black, white and a double primary palette (cool & warm red yellow and blue) Example of a primary palette : lemon yellow and cadmium medium yellow
alizarin crimson and cadmium medium red

ultramarine blue and cerulean blue If you have earth colors already, you can bring those as well.

Rags or paper towels (I cut up old T-shirts and jeans into small rectangles) Several plastic garbage bags to hang on the easel & to store wet paint brushes in
