Flowers are an incredibly rewarding and beautiful subject – but also a very challenging one. This workshop will introduce you to some crucial concepts and techniques that will make flower painting a little less intimidating.
Catherine Bobkoski brings her extensive figure drawing experience to the practice of representing flowers. Over the course of three days, she will guide you through the process of painting two different flower shapes from direct observation using fresh florals. In this class, you will learn to develop your flower painting the same way you might begin a figure drawing – with gesture, structure, and a clear value statement. Catherine will focus specifically on how to simplify complex forms by squinting, designing and following a clear value pattern, and thinking in simple, geometric forms.
Instructor demonstrations and individual feedback and support will help you grow in your understanding and appreciation of the subject. If you have found flowers to be a challenging subject, then following this traditional approach and using a limited color palette will be an eye-opening experience!
