"Modeling Drapery in Relief"
Medium: Oil-based Clay on wooden board
Description:
"'Drapery', a term that describes fabric and clothing in art, is a versatile design element in figurative sculpture. A drapery study from a three-dimensional model is an effective way to learn the rhythms and tensions in folds that might surround a figure in a more complex composition. The practice also improves our sense of composition and clay modeling technique. In this class we will study the drapery on its own as a unique composition, interpreting it in bas-relief. Alicia will provide model compositions of fabric and other related materials to work from. Students will work at a 1:1 scale on a prepared clay slab, describing the forms of the fabric in bas-relief. The format also provides an introduction to the art of bas-relief sculpture. Alicia will work alongside students providing demos, brief lectures, and individual feedback.
Materials:
Armatures will be provided by Alicia,
Clay: we'll use an estimated 2lbs per person (in addition to what's on the slab already). JMAC Classic medium clay
Tools: Alicia will bring tools for you to borrow. Please feel free to also bring your own.
