Marjorie Hicks: PUPPY LOVE workshop

 DESCRIPTION:
Students will be asked to paint from the high quality images that Marjorie will provide. Our aim will be to get a believable form down quickly. We’ll paint in the deepest value shape first, then mids, and finally the light. That’s our game plan… SIMPLIFICATION

What you’ll need:

CANVAS:

Bring what you enjoy working on. I like toned canvases, either Senso unbleached linen with clear gesso, or pale umber acrylic paint mixed in with a white gesso. It’s not necessary to have what I have. I’ll show you how to quickly tone your canvas.

Please bring (3) 11x14 boards and (2) 12 x16 boards each day of the workshop. These boards can be divided in half or in thirds for exercises. You may also bring extra boards in various sizes for single paintings 9x12, 11x14, 12x16, no larger. It is nice to have a variety of options and extra boards for practice.

Here’s my recipe for Toning Canvas: Mix Liquitex white gesso with Pale Umber acrylic paint in equal measures. Add a few drops of water and mix together to loosen. Apply to your white canvas with a large brush. (I use nylon for this). You can’t put this on an oil primed canvas, only acrylic. (Nice because oil primed boards are more expensive). I will demonstrate how I apply this, so if you can’t do it before hand, no worries. BUT, if you like to accrue brownie points, come with your boards prepped!!
