RECIPE FOR TONING PALE UMBER BOARDS:
Feel free to tone your foundations in any quiet color you’d like, as long as it’s a couple of steps down from stark white. If you want to try a favorite of mine, here are directions below. I don’t always use this, BUT it’s a great choice to use when attempting my process.
Mix Liquitex white gesso with Pale Umber acrylic paint (Galleria brand) https://www.plazaart.com/winsor-newton-galeria-acrylic-60ml-pale-umber 3 parts gesso, to 1 part pale umber. Mix well. Add a few drops of water to thin a bit. I use large nylon brushes to apply, and I like to see the brush marks. (I don’t smooth it out, but that is your preference, of course) Please remember that you cannot put acrylic over oil primed boards or paintings! One reason I like it, is that it’s dry in minutes!
