Supply List
Studio Supplies:
palette (wood or glass, minimum 12x16 inches) palette knife
palette cup for medium
assorted white bristle brushes (sizes 4, 8, 10, 12, 18, etc.) cotton rags (such as old T shirts)
drawing board & clips masking tape
small sketchpad, charcoal, pencil
1 medium to large watercolor brush with pointed tip and round ferrule. A Chinese bamboo handle Sumi or squirrel quill is good (3/8 to 1/2 inch base).
Black India ink (not fountain pen ink) or Chinese Ink, small bottle (or share) shallow dish for mixing ink
cup for water
Oil Paints: Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue Hue (or Viridian) Raw Umber
Titanium, Mixed, or Flake White (large tube)
Oil Medium: prepared medium of your choice, or linseed oil
Solvent: Odor-free Turpenoid (Gamsol)
Brush washer or large jar with screen insert and top. Airtight container for transporting used solvent
Painting/Drawing Surfaces:
8 sheets (18x24) regular white drawing paper
Rough newsprint pad 18x24 inches
3 sheets (22x30) toned charcoal paper: Canson mi-teinte or equivalent, middle value neutral color
2-3 primed canvases, any size 16 x 20 to 24 x 30
4-5 additional smaller painting surfaces such as unmounted canvas pieces, cardboard, masonite panels, watercolor paper or heavy drawing paper
