Inspired by Degas, Master of Composition
Deconstructing a Degas composition and using it to reconstruct a new still life painting Siner will demonstrate the importance of learning from the Masters as well as how the structure of composition determines movement and shape relationships in painting.
Studying the great painters has always been part of an artists formation. It offers great insight into the magic and mystery that makes a masterpiece so powerful, and teaches us how to develop the structure, synergies, divisions, relationships, repetitions and rhythms that keep us moving though the painting and conveying its messages.
In this live painting demonstration, Siner will begin with the geometry, gesture and large movements of a Degas painting. She will then use that compositional knowledge and structure to paint a new still life painting of her own. Maggie’s decisive mark making, color sensitivity and engaging teaching style make a live demonstration an inspiring event.
A digital image of the Degas painting will be sent to all registered participants to that you can print and have it in front of you during the demo.
