Live demonstration from her studio in Venice, Italy, by outstanding artist and speaker Maggie Siner. The structure of a painting derives from the underlying gesture and implied movement of shapes.
Using the intimacy of still life and its possibilities for narrative interpretation, (e.g., a figure is implied though discarded clothing) Siner will paint directly from life focusing on simplification, gestural cohesion, and pushing against the grid. What to emphasize and what to leave out? These decisions are particular to each empathic observation and crucial to a fearless use of the oil painting medium. Siner’s use of paint and brushwork locks feeling and response into the transcendent quality of oil paint.
