Christine Peloquin: Painting and Drawing with Mixed Media Collage. 3 Day Workshop July 9-11, 2026

9:30 am-4:30 pm
Learn the joys of mixed media collage. In the workshop, I teach the fundamentals of collage, drawing and painting while challenging artists to unlock and find their inner voice. My teaching technique caters to the individual artist and their level of expertise, so I have techniques for both beginners and advanced artists who want to enhance their skill sets. We learn the fundamentals of collage on the first day and then spend the second day drawing and the 3rd day painting over those collages.
On day 1, we will play with gelli plates, stamps and mono-printing on papers and then collage multiple panels using fabrics and papers. I teach design, composition and color and all the tips and tricks to a successful collage with a collage demo. Students are encouraged to bring stencils, stamps and textures for printing and all the papers and fabrics that we all keep for that rainy day! The materials used will be the choice of each student, but students are encouraged to also incorporate some of their own prior artwork into new pieces. The objective of the workshop is to explore new mixed media techniques and excavate each student’s authentic voice in their art.
On day 2, I teach 2 drawing methods using the student's own photos. We start by sketching our desired photos on paper. Then, I teach how to graph a photo for any size free hand drawing and a tracing method that works well for small pieces and individuals who are intimidated or new to drawing. I do drawing demonstrations on the first day so that you know what to expect and what kind of photo reference to bring. At the end of the second day, I will do a painting demo.
On day 3, we paint with acrylics over the collages, learning how to paint translucently and effectively. I teach how to resolve issues with the paint and how to bring the piece alive with color. I work individually with each person trying to get their projects to a place that they love. I encourage everyone to incorporate mixed media collage into what they already do! I will work with each person on whatever style project they would like to work on whether it is faces, figures, landscapes, still lives or abstracts.
There are no set rules in my workshops. I try to create a fun time that introduces new techniques and a comfortable learning environment to enhance where they already are. All levels are welcomed!
