This 6 week course focuses on the fundamentals of painting a life-sized half-view portrait using both live observation and photo reference.

Students will follow a professional studio process, beginning with head studies from life, followed by a photoshoot and composition sketches, and culminating in a large final canvas. Working with the same model throughout the course, artists will alternate between painting directly from the live model and from their own photographs, mirroring the process of painting a subject on commission. The model will rotate, posing for one artist at a time to provide the unique experience of working independently with a subject while remaining in a group setting. Demonstrations and guided instruction will be woven throughout.
