In the ongoing—and sometimes frustrating—quest to become a better artist, one thing that without doubt can be a great help is having someone who’s gone ahead of you and travelled the same road, sharing their insights and experiences on what they’ve learned and what has helped them make better art, whatever the medium, whether in drawing, oil painting, Watercolor, etc. Artist and teacher Christopher Scott Huffman has walked a lot of that road himself, gleaning things along the way, learning in the process what makes for creating better artwork.
As an artist who works in all three mediums of drawing, oil painting and watercolor, Christopher understands the particular challenges each one presents. But not only that: he can articulate it to others in a way they can understand and by doing so they can better implement it in their work.
Christopher will work with each student to help identify and work through whatever blocks or impediments they find themselves bumping up against. One can opt to work from a photo or from a setup in the studio. Whatever it is, he or she will benefit from what is learned in these classes. We won’t be dealing with hypotheticals or art theory. We will be dealing with what works and what brings measurable results. Whether it’s composition, color, values, the control of edges, proportions or proper application of one’s materials and tools, you will learn things in this class you can take away and use for the rest of your life.
Being an artist is generally a pretty solitary endeavor, so it helps sometimes to be with other artists who are also trying to improve their skills (even Leonardo da Vinci recommended it, and you’re not going to argue with him, are you?).
So, come and be part of this class. You won’t regret it and you’ll learn some stuff to help you do even better stuff. And hopefully we’ll all stretch and grow just a little bit more on this ongoing artistic journey.
