Portrait painting is arguably the most rigorous genre of representational painting because it requires mastery at many levels, most notably acute seeing and excellent drawing. Because portraiture has too many facets to study during our two days, we will focus primarily on achieving accurate drawings using carefully studied and accurately represented shape, value, color and edge relationships. 

Because this two day workshop is open to students using charcoal OR oil paint, Jim will demonstrate with both mediums before students begin working from the model.
