Terry Miura: Demystifying the Human Figure. 4 days February 5-8, 2015

February 5 - 8, 2015
9 am-4 pm
Tuition: $495 (model fee included)

The human figure is arguably the most difficult subject matter for an artist. The complexity and the unforgiving nature of the motif is intimidating for many artists, to say the least!

This workshop aims to demystify figure drawing and painting, and presents a logical process which will allow students to tackle this difficult subject matter with a much deeper understanding and confidence.

In the first part of the workshop, the emphasis will be on capturing the gesture and depicting form, using dry media. Working with short poses, we will focus on analyzing and translating what we see onto paper. We will have in-depth discussions on the relationship between light and form, visual anatomy, rhythm, and will learn about short-hand techniques and mark-making strategies.

In the second half, we will apply this knowledge to painting. Using oils, we will cover techniques to express simply, logically, and effectively. Controlling values, colors and edges will be our primary emphasis as we work with a series of poses to sharpen our skills and gain a deeper understanding of painting the figure.  Models will be nude and clothed.
