Greg Decker: Beginning Oil Painting. 8 Wednesday Evenings 6-9 pm. July 10-August 28, 2019

8 Wednesday Evenings
7 weeks of painting and the last class will be a lecture of art hstory
6-9 pm

Designed for a maximum of eight students, this class in oil painting is for beginning (total beginners welcome!) students who want to learn the technical and formal basics of classical oil painting.   Because of the small class size, Greg can accommodate those students who are ready for more than basic exercises.

Using simple still-life set-ups and dramatic lighting, students will learn to understand, and paint, light and shadow to create realistic paintings. Using demos and a step-by-step approach, students will begin with a "limited" earth palette, gradually including brighter color, always with an emphasis on sculptural form. Eight week class, meeting once a week. Affordable but high-quality materials list.

Because of small class size, intermediate students can also be accommodated. Hand-outs and art historical information will be a part of this course.

Greg Decker has been a professional fine arts oil painter for over thirty years. He has taught many successful workshops in Nashville, upstate New York, and teaches landscape yearly in France (for FranceWithFriends, a program hosted by Amelie de Gaulle).  Widely traveled, he lived in NYC for twelve years, teaching for MoMA and for the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a visual teaching artist.

He holds two Masters Degrees in oil painting, from Cranbrook Academy, and from the New York Academy of Art.

on Greg's recent oil painting workshop in Nashville: "Greg's deep knowledge of art history augments his gentle and humorous, yet straightforward teaching style. He serves up expansive technical knowledge, while guiding, encouraging and challenging students individually , with an instinct for knowing who needs what during a class.....and when."
