Mark Daniel Nelson Workshop

Suggested Materials List: 

(note: As we will be dealing in layered paint, Acrylics are preferable. However, the exercises will work in oil if you prefer to use it).

Acrylics: 

 Liquitex brand acrylic paints:  Mark prefers "soft body" paint, but "heavy body" will work and can be thinned down as needed..  Just do not buy "Basics".because it is garbage!  Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Orange (substitute "hues" for cadmium colors to reduce expense), Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Dioxazine Violet, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Mars Black, Titanium White 

Painting medium- Golden Fluid Matte or Satin Medium, or Golden Acrylic Glazing Medium and cup, acrylic painting palette with lid, water spray bottle, at least 10 canvases, panels or multimedia pad. Most exercises will be small (6x8-12x16) and we will do 2-3 per day minimum, brushes (I recommend Windsor and Newton "University" filberts and flats sizes 2-8), palette knive/knives .

Oils: 

 Utrecht brand oil paints; Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Orange (substitute "hues" for cadmium colors to reduce expense), Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Dioxazine Violet, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Mars Black, Titanium White, Galkyd gel (to speed drying)

Palette with carrier, paper towels or kleenex, brushes (I recommend Utrecht filbert 209s and Utrecht flat 203s.  Sizes 2-8), palette knife/knives, turp can or cup with GAMSOL ODORLESS MINERAL SPIRITS ONLY!!!), at least 10 canvases or panels. Most exercises will be small (6x8-12x16) and we will do 2-3 per day minimum.

 General:  

Smock, nylon gloves, smartphone or tablet to take photos,  your choice of reference material to paint either printed photographs or on laptops or ipad. , sketchbook and pencil, etc. 

Special note on tablets: If you are bringing a tablet, the sketching/painting app "Procreate" is recommended. ArtRage is also acceptable.
