Have you ever wondered what this "plein air painting" thing is all about? Ever spotted an artist out in the field, alongside a road or in a park and visualize yourself there with brush in hand?

This two day workshop with Nashville artist Kevin Menck will take you there!   Kevin spends nearly every day outside painting the Tennessee landscape. He has learned first hand how to tackle painting nature in every season and has a knack for simplifying his process for students.

On day one of this information packed workshop, students will learn a bit about the history of plein air painting and have opportunity to check out various plein air painting equipment. Kevin will do a demonstration (indoors) before lunch, discussing the basic essentials of a solid painting.

After lunch, the group will head outdoors to paint in plein air either nearby the studio or at a local park/greenway. Kevin will spend time with each artist during the afternoon answering questions and guiding students through the plein air process.

On day 2, the group will meet either at the studio or a local park/greenway to spend the day. Kevin will set up to paint a demonstration and students can paint alongside him. After a short break in the afternoon, students will re-group to ask questions, talk about the paintings they've worked on, discuss challenges of painting in plein air, and more!

Students will need a portable easel, paint palette, a variety of brushes (inexpensive is fine), oil paint (3 primaries + white), paper towels, mineral spirits/cup, palette knife, trash bag

Other plein air painting essentials: water, hat/visor, sunscreen, bug spray,  To learn more about Kevin and to see more of his work, visit: www.kevinmenck.com
